NONE: Video from Web sites -- advertising value?
Video from Web sites -- advertising value?

Hello, advertising-list members. I need some advice!
My company, Vivo Software (http://www.vivo.com) is developing
a way to deliver video (and audio) content to Web surfers from
ordinary Web servers. Our scheme delivers and plays the video
reasonably quickly even over a modem connection; we have
overcome the long-download/short-playback problem inherent
in traditional AVI/QuickTime video viewing.
My questions are these:
Does it make sense to show video advertisements on the Web? Would anybody
out there in online-advertising-land use this technology
for delivering advertising?
Does it make sense for us to offer ad-insertion features to allow a
web site operator to run an ad video immediately before or after a video
with "editorial" content? Video ads could be put into editorial video either
by using one of the desktop video packages (Media Studio Pro, Adobe Premiere,
etc), or by features in our video-delivery system.
Obviously, ads inserted by desktop video packages could be well-
integrated into the editorial video. However, it would be hard to
rotate ads or change advertisers. Vivo's technology could make it
straightforward to change ads. Do you have any thoughts on the
requirements for this kind of feature?
With banner-type ads, an impression is recorded when the image download
begins. If the web-surfer abandons the transaction before the download
completes, the impression is still logged (please correct me if I'm wrong
about this). Is it valuable (in the case of video ads) to record the
COMPLETION of the download?
I'm very interested in any advice or remarks you have.
Regards,
