I am looking into advertising on the big search engines (Yahoo, Infoseek,
Excite, Magellan etc.) Is there a list available to compare CPM at these
sites? I am seeking to attract medical/biological scientists to our site
BioMedNet (http://BioMedNet.com), is there one particular search engine the
scientific community use?
I am also interested in the CTR differences for banners in general areas and
targeted areas (e.g. the science/health sub sections). Coming from a direct
mail background, I consider the list to be the key factor. It may then be
worthwhile paying a much higher CPM for the specialist area of a search
engine. Obviously, there are other determining factors such as the ad
design and offer, but the placement remains the main one.
I would also like to test a couple of the search engines before committing
myself to a longer run. Do any of the search engines have small test runs
like the Healthgate model of 2000 impressions? Most seem to start at around
100,000 impressions which is a lot of money for an untried medium. On the
big search engines all of these impressions could be on one day. I ma
worried that the rush of traffic to our site could crash our server.
Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Lots of questions and few answers I'm afraid.
