ONLINE-ADS>> solution to analyze web traffic

This group appears to have tremendous experience in quantifying web results,
and I'm grateful for the opportunity to listen in.
I'm looking for a solution to analyze web traffic -- not for an advertiser
but for a basic corporate client, who simply wants to know who's coming to
their site. A programmer offered me a $20,000 bid to implement Nielsen's
I/PRO, and I thought that was pretty high, given that I've previously used
stats that our webmaster funneled through wwwstats for free, if I'm not
mistaken. I also think that might be more appropriate for a web publisher
who's running ads. I'm wondering if anyone's used the service or if it
offers anything more than you can get from the $500 desktop software
(Net.Analysis) that analyzes web logs. I would imagine that everyone here
would benefit from hearing what others have used successfully relating to
analysis/tracking tools.
Also, is it possible to get anything more than domain, time, geographic
region, etc. without a form that requests for the personal data, e.g.,
e-mail address, full name, etc?
Any thoughts/experiences would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
