Buried too deep based on what type of search engine query? Airline tickets...
discount airline tickets....concert tickets...I want a ticket to ride...different
query, different result.

I recently did a search on Alta Vista for "web animation", only I searched
[like the half-arsed speller that I am] for "web annimation" and guess what?
I received *many* responses to pages who apparently speeled <g>just as
badly as I.

1) purchase key words, or
2) purchase banner ads
3) don't worry about it

quick story...
once upon a time you could meta tag key words for searches wherein the more times you
used the word, the higher up on the search you where. Meta-tag *cheese-straightener*
100 times beats out *cheese-straightener* meta-tagged 99 times.

BTW this is called spamdexing.

Well many of the powers that be [more power to them] at the search engines and
directories changes the rules. List the same word more than 7 times and your site
will not even SHOW up on the search.

What the Internet does best is niche marketing. Specialize in an area, service, or
product and you will turn up *high* on the search engines when people are looking
for your specialty. What's your clients USP (unique selling proposition) in other
words why should someone come to them over the other 50 businesses on the
Internet do *almost* the same thing.

Make certain your clients turn up high in a search when searching words that would
be used by people looking for goods/services targeting their USP.

My God man, why not write a companies URL on the inside of a book of matches
and charge them a penny a piece [for the number of matches in the book]?

I assume you meant "NOT annoying" not "AND annoying" unless that is you're
subscribing to the Dogbert theory of marketing.

Call this *friendly fire* actually I appreciate someone trying to come up with
new marketing strategies.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Try it.
Offer it to a company for free and see how it works. Maybe make it a unique,
measurable referring URL that could have only come from your sig file.

Remember most companies are paranoid enough about what their own
employees post to lists, so they may even want to review your posts.

With banner ads running ad $10-$40 CPM, I'm not certain how you'd price
an animal like this. Probably an hourly rate combined with some sort of
performance/result remuneration.

Remember competition for ad dollars is fierce on the Net right now. Product
is cheap and plentiful, and serious buyers are few and far between.

I know, I'm an online media buyer.

I view CPM on rate cards as a rough draft to the Tonight Show monologue.
<i.e. they're funny, but they need a lot of work>
