Zak May, the 3-rd most prolific Usenet poster back in 1992, was
posting about 150 Usenet articles a week. Whether on Russian, music,
or gays newsgroups, people enjoyed and trusted his articles.

A couple of months ago I investigated how many people at a large
newsgroup (soc.culture.russian) would follow a properly suggested URL
(i.e., an URL was suggested during a discusion by one of the respected
members of the soc.culture.russian community).

I have chosen a page and measured the traffic. 200 people came to the
page in 2 days. This page was hardly getting 2 visitors a day before.

Well, with 150 posts a week, and, say, 100 people interested in
someone's posts, the result would be 15,000 views a week - about $300
in weekly revenues for the writer.

At the same time even if a well-respected CEO of some unknown to the
community company will post her ad, she has a chance to get
blacklisted.
