ONLINE-ADS>> report on national news about new ad methods

Okay, so the newest form of advertising on TV may become one of the most
ANNOYING. It still seems to be one of the most clever ideas in recent time.
The idea is to use advanced computer graphics to superimpose an ad anywhere
on a sporting event's real estate... between goalposts, centerfield, on the
ice in a hockey game, on the back wall at a baseball game, in the lines at
a tennis match, and so on. The report showed an orange juice ad, where a
giant orange hovered over the center of a soccer field, including the
shadow on the field itself.
This is tv, okay, and we are talking about the internet. I think there are
some ideas that can be taken from this concept though.
How about a background that is basically the logo of a sponsor, or that
symbolizes some product. Using photoshop, it's possible to make a
background that, by using the "adjust">>"levels" image modifying filters,
can be so light that the foreground images and text are still very legible,
but the background is also legible. I could, say, have a huge coca-cola
logo as my background, or the golden arches. Obviously, it wouldn't be
possible to hyperlink the background, but I don't know why every ad online
should link you to anything. Alot of useful ads are strictly there to make
you think of the product or company. That would be the function of a
background ad.
Anyone else have this same idea? Does it seem viable? I'm sure there's
drawbacks. The most prominent drawback would be the annoyance factor. I
think that's a moot point though, as long as you have enough intelligence
to only use the background on pages that people HAVE TO load for some
reason or another, like a giveaway, where the benefit of loading the page
offsets any inconvenience you can throw at the viewer.
