Hi All

Re. Donna Dolezal Zelzer's questions about pricing ads in newsletters -- I
recently began using a pricing model similar to the one advocated by Jack
T. Jordan:

>I vote for a). Rather than looking at the downside of not cashing in (on the
>enormous sum of $0.05 per reader) for new readers added during the course of
>a multiweek campaign, why don't you instead offer those extra readers, at no
>extra cost, to prospective advertisers as an incentive if they will simply:
>
>a) Send a check, NOW!!!
>
>b) Send a check for a multi-week campaign, NOW!!!

<SNIP>

We publish 22 monthly e-mail newsletters, each of which tells you where to
find the Web's coolest sites related to a particular theme. We currently
have a combined circulation of over 20,000 subscribers.

Our Sponsorship Fees are based on a cost per thousand (CPM). We offer an
extremely competive rate of only AUS$ 20.00 CPM (approx. US$16.00). Our
rates are re-calculated at the end of each month to reflect our latest
circulations.

Our sponsors obtain an additional discount by not being charged for the
subscribers who sign-on during the 30-or-so days between calculating our
rates and distributing the newsletters. They can obtain a larger discount
by booking sponsorships up to three months in advance. Some of our more
popular titles are currently receiving 15-20 new subscribers per day -- so
the incentive to book ahead is quite significant. All sponsorships must be
paid in advance of distribution.

We've been using this system for two months and it seems to be working very
well for all concerned. We're happy because it encourages our sponsors to
book and pay for their ads well in advance of publication. Our sponsors are
happy because they can take advantage of one of the most cost-effective and
highly-targeted online advertising opportunities currently available.

Cheers :-)
