I think the real issue will be is how relevant will the search engines be
in the future

1. In many cases it's like looking at a listing often page after page
(Unless you are a very sophisticated user) With many of the most relevant
being buried. This is going to discourage use of the engines. Most users
will get turned off by that.
2. Unless you are in a niche then it's going to be a constant battle to
get at the top. Depending on your market that is either going to be worth
it or not.

I strongly suspect that people are going to spend their dollars doing
something else. Now what exactly that something else is, at the moment
seems unclear. I suspect we are going to start seeing a lot more junk
e-mail. More targeted ads, more linking of traditional media with the
internet.
