Ciao from Italy!
I have a couple questions to put to your attention, mostly due to
a few months of experience with banner advertising programs.
Almost every subject buying your ad space (be it Commonwealth
or other one) doesn't pay you for every banner impression generated.
The last reply I had from our "agent" was that this was due to the
fact that advertisers don't care about multiple ad views from the
same host. Now this leads to two questions:
1. I don't really believe this is correct. There are many examples
of repeated advertising out there: think about road wallpapers or
to the little images that scroll on your TV screen during a sport
match: it's probably true that the people reached is the same
throughout the game, yet they fight to conquer the chance to reach
them more than once. I don't think that Web is so different, and,
while I might understand that the price tag for impressions after
the first one could be reduced, it makes me *mad* to think that my
users waste their time, waiting for a banner to come out on the
screen, without that from that wait there will be a revenue to the
site owner who is in charge to improve the site. The result is that
the advertisor gets a value he's not going to pay... and being the
page read average on our site of 7-8 per user, he's actually paying
1 out of 7-8 chances to get an individual.
2. We, the content providers, are being checked and audited as if
we were ready to fraud people. But can anyone tell how payment goes
between advertisers and agencies? I'm scared to discover that the
impression not paid to us are billed to the advertiser...
That's it for now, thank you for your attention!
