I agree, except that I don't think that this phenomenon
is limited to the Web. e.g., Once one TV advertiser
started displaying static text on their ads for many
seconds (in order to ensure that they would be seen
by the viewer who uses fast-forward on taped shows),
many other advertisers followed suit.

That's why the field rewards constant creativity. :-)
