NONE: Where Are We Going?
Where Are We Going?

Do either of the terms "sperficial" or "artificial" means anything to this
group?
First, if the shoe fits, wear it! If you're innocent, no one can make you
feel guilty or uneasy without your consent. That's a definiton of justice
(not claiming originality).
That having been said, sublimal discussions are ridiculous. As a few
commented, it's product placements we're often taking about here (most of
the time) anyway.
We dispensed with "click's and "click throughs", I hope. The phoney
statistics and wished for "universal parameters" wish are *just* that,
really made that discussion, if not completely bogus, a huge waste of time.
And what's makes a good banner? We killed that one too. And guess what,
it's changing as we discuss it. What works for Joe's Tire Shop doesn't
work for Tom's Wheel Covers. What works for IBM, doesn't for Gateway.
Discuss this stuff, fine. Insist on "defining it", get real!
If you're saying "Well' why don't you just leave!" I may. I'll be the
Vietnam war protestor and you be the red neck slob, okay?
Oh yeah, I'm angry. Reason: I ask straight-forward, sometimes probing
questions, about real marketing expertise on the web. Where to go? How to
affect it? Give me some discussion on how creative cgi scripts and can
build unique, dynamic sites? Let's discuss specific cases to see how to
move ideas and imaginative thinking around the world. an eye on
innovation, not homogenization.
If we can't do better than major search engines registrations, an email to
a newsgroup, and a couple lists of media people and ezines, just say so. I
expected more. But that'll be my problem, I guess.
A few people responded to my questions/comments over the past few months
and to you I say "Thanks. I do appreciate it".
I suppose what irks me most is people's narrow view of this technology.
Those who think they can quantify that which is unquantifiable, transfer
statistics which are full of more hole than swiss cheese on dart
board...All the while, the need for making the web a more personal and
friendly environment *is the challenge*. It's person-to-person, not
machine-to-machine that we should striving to evolve.
I suppose my ultimate question: Is this (group) the place to share ideas
about engaging and endearing people to what the web can offer? Or is it a
place for superficial discussions and transparent email signatures?
