Rob, I like this model very much. I'm director of online strategy for
Concentric Network Corporation and I'm looking exactly for opportunities
like this to offer to Concentric's subscriber base.
My model may be a little different than the one you are offering: I may want
to offer the product in your example to my customers for free (net cost to
me $3.50 in your model) as an incentive for them to sign up. I may discount
the cost of your product to my customers as an incentive instead of
pocketing the cash. Or I may ask you for permission to charge $10 per
customer and pocket a real difference!
The name of the game in this industry is FLEXIBILITY. We are all BUILDING
the model for how to get revenue in this industry, and we must be willing to
explore any idea that makes sense. Heck, if it doesn't work, we can all
change our web pages and go on. That's the beauty of the web. We can test
theories and see if they will work.
Depending on your product and/or service, I'd love to talk to you (and to
anyone else out there who wants a bunch o' eyeballs to come 'round your site).
