"Well, my boy," as the old codger said, shaking his head, "it's not WHAT you
know, but WHO you know." --
Peter:
I think that there's only one sure way to make anything have a fighting
chance on the Web. That's by linking and listing with every and any relevant
(or distantly so, make a case for each one) web site or "search place" on
the CyberPlanet. And, unfortunately, that takes time, not only to do it, but
also to wait for the payoff. How much time? Not much really -- a few short
months. But months, nevertheless. (Of course, conventional pr/advertising is
critical, too, along with the usual -- use of collateral materials, etc., etc.)
But, for the Web, if your art dealer's stock is good enough, it will be
timeless enough for the Web. Things that are really faddish don't work so
well. The things that we think are fads that are on the Web, look more
closely -- they have staying power at least long enough to be there for the
links to work and draw visitors -- not once, not twice, but many times back.
Then, what comes in behind those products, the change-out product/content,
is very much a look-alike or an add-on to what came before. The Web is not
as quick-moving as we perceive it to be. It's inexpensive, relatively easy
to change out, but inconvenient as hell to do so: not from a content or even
a theoretical standpoint, but from the construction standpoint. I'm talking
about the behind-the-scenes constructs, the coding and links, and so forth.
They still have to be deconstructed and reconstructed each time. It's a lot
like mobile homes...how many of them are truly mobile? Even the so-called
RV's. Have you ever moved one? And when do they move? AAh, yes, when....
(The Web Site is very much like that.)
