How good are Web Rings for promoting sites?

Has anybody got any info on the effectiveness of Web Rings for promoting web
sites? They seem to be growing exponentially!

I have just created a new one for cyber malls, as the concept seemed good
value to me... free, no compulsory graphics, more hits from potential
customers. But I would be interested to hear of other people's experiences
as it is too early for me to judge their effectiveness.
