Actually, you can prevent it. Try using "mailhost.cyberhighway.net" to
send email from your server to a NON-cyberhighway domain. It won't work.

There are two ways of protecting from being used as a "spam-relay" that
I know of:

1) if your using sendmail, upgrade to 8.8.5 (or later) and check out
http://www.sendmail.org/antispam.html for more info.

2) use Qmail as your server. See http://www.qmail.org for more info.

Of the two, Qmail BY FAR has more security and speed then Sendmail, but
Sendmail has been around for decades and some admins aren't willing to
change. I've used both and Sendmail is hard to configure and is still
"experimental". The anti-relaying support in Qmail has been built in from
the start and is VERY stable.

BTW I have dealt with A LOT of spam, and I consider it the same as you.
We had one user from New Jersey (not on our service) relay through us
(before we fixed the hole). He sent so much email it delayed the delivery
of our mail for nearly 2 hours. We also considered that an attack and
explained to his upline network provider, we were seeking legal action.
Computer attacks are a federal crime and is a felony. The spammer had
his account AND is domain revoked within 2 days.
