ONLINE-ADS>> control over banner design

Hello!
I've been reading about banner ads here and elsewhere for a time,
but only recently put up my Windweaver web site (6,000 visitors in the
first month, with little promotion) and am now starting to think about
soon attracting advertisers and sponsors. However, for various
reasons, my site is very elegantly designed and color-coordinated -
entirely deep blue, gold, black and white.
I'm wondering what control one can have over the nature and color
of the ads/ banners that a company places on one's site, and how one
might negotiate that, apart from creating the banners/ads oneself.
I put up a small Looksmart awards logo on the bottom of my index
page and even that small gif make an otherwise very elegant page
navy and gold page look junky.
Any feedback or suggestions?
Thanks to all who contribute their knowledge to this list...
