ONLINE-ADS>> "Push" technology vs. targetted advertising

I spoke with the salesman for the local newspaper chain yesterday
regarding possible advertising on their web site, and he mentioned
that they also offer a PointCast channel which has something like
35,000 subscribers at present. But when I asked about advertising,
he said that I could NOT do any kind of targetted advertising using
PointCast because it is a broadcast medium. Obviously, I get some
level of 'targetting' based on the channel (e.g. people subscribed to
the local newspaper's channel are going to be more likely to be in
my geographic target area), but surely we aren't abandoning the
concept of 'narrowcasting' when we switch to 'push' technology?
Or are we?
