We all have to be careful (myself included) not to base judgements on
the future of the Net and push technology on our own personal
experiences. While Jennifer's experiences may be true for her, they
are not for me. In fact the Net is now my main news resource. My
experience is more in line with the original post which essentially said
we would someday have loyalties to a set bundle of sites (which I
believe will be further ingrained with the advent of push technology
channels). I can't, however, make the assumption that my own experience
is a reflection of everyone else's.
So, what this leaves us is...what does the research say? Are there any
studies or reports regarding the success or future of push? While it's
getting A LOT of hoopla are people warming up to it and using it (my
sources say yes).
Also, let's not forget that push is going beyond the Net. There are
systems that will be pushing the information to cell phones and pagers.
The computer will not be the only output medium for the technology. So
we should be careful in just basing our perceptions on our PC
experiences.
As for me, based on my personal experiences ;), I'm wagering push and
personalization are in for the long haul and you can bet you'll see us
there.
