I do Web page surveys for a living. One key rule of thumb that I try to
follow is to never ask for information that can be gotten without asking. A
CGI script at the front end can be set up to tell you the browser's previous
page. In this case one might want to post the survey only for those who
have not come from a search engine or known linked Web site. This might cut
down dramatically on the number of people who are asked the question. It
also may allow you more leeway to ask other pertinant questions.
