It's assinine because TV is regional. The World Wide Web is, well,
world-wide. The only way to do time-specific ads would be to have a
script that retrieves the local time from the visitor's computer
(seeing as many online services are national or international and you
can't just rely on the visitor's IP address to provide accurate info
about where they are). That's assuming they have their system clock
set correctly and the browser will provide it by via straight CGI as
you cannot be sure they'll have JavaScript available or enabled.
When people are mistaking their CD-ROM trays for cupholders, it's
nearly impossible for you to come up with all the ways people are
going to beat your system through the persistent application of sheer
cluelessness. I'd say such a system would perform with such limited
accuracy, it's not worth implementing as the cost would outweigh the
advantages.
