A story from an Japanese MBA colleague:

Speaking of mis-used marketing phrases. An unnamed Japanese internet company
was going to use Woody Woodpecker as the character to represent their product
in the states. Apparently, the Japanese knew we liked Woody Woodpecker and
were attempting to be cute. They were going to use the phrase: "Touch Woody,
Your Internet Pecker". NO JOKE. When they ran it through their focus groups,
the obvious cultural interpretation was found.

Woods are everything and more importantly, knowing how your audience will
interpret them
