Can't I verify if the address is valid because the email does not come back
to me?

If a company gets a request to be removed from a mailing list, and its
ignored, the customer is hardly likely to be in a more receptive mood when
they get the next one. All the company is doing is creating a bad impression.

Thinking as a customer, any email advertising, where all you are sending me
is an advert, especially if I did not ask for it, is not going to be effective.

However, a short ad at the top or bottom of an email newsletter (ie.
something I want to receive and read) is good, and chances are I will read
the advert in a fairly receptive mood.

This mailing list does exactly that. Even the extra mail once a week
hilighting the sponsers is tolerable, and I normally read it.
