Are Terry's comments an example of spam hysteria or what?? Let's get real
Terry! First, such "unsolicited" e-mail messages as Terry discribes above,
are most likely to result from a newsgroup post. Terry, would like us to
believe the following scenerio: If Terry were monitoring a newsgroup and
someone posted a message to a friend saying "I am looking for a used Ford
1/2 ton pickup" and Terry just happened to be living in the same community
as the poster, and just happened to have a used 1/2 ton Ford pick-up for
sale, Terry would *not* send an e-mail to the poster so informing him of
that fact. Why you ask? Because, Terry argues that would be technically an
"unsolicited" e-mail. Do you find this hard to believe? I do.

Terry, IMHO I doubt that 5% of the net community would fail to send an
e-mail per example described above. I ask you, who has been harmed by this
"unsolicted" e-mail? More importantly, what is the potential gain to both
parties that could result from sending such an "unsolicited" e-mail? The
answers to these two questions speak volumes as to why your argument
doesn't make any sense!

I would argue, that when one post's a message to a newsgroup indicating an
interest in a particular product or service, one is by logical inference
requesting a response from all who read the newsgroup, otherwise why post
to a newsgroup? Just send a private e-mail. Terry's response is a prime
example of how the debate over spam often lacks logic, and boarders (I'm
being kind now) on hysteria.
