I just wanted to share with you that we broke the 5000 subscriber mark. As of 5:33:33 PM CDT we have 5023 subscribers to this list. Thanks to everyone who contributes their experiences, advice and opinions. You all are the reason so many people want to join us.
Since we are all hopefully feeling "warm and fuzzy," and I have your attention, I want to share a new subscribing procedure with everyone that we just instituted late this afternoon. And I want to fill you in on why we are doing it.
>From now on, whenever people fill out the subscription form at the list web site ( http://www.o-a.com/ ), they will NOT be added to the list UNTIL they return a confirmation message that is sent via email to the address they put in the form. The reason I am telling you this is because many people join at the recommendation of existing subscribers. If you are recommending the list to your friends, colleagues or co-workers, please let them know that filling out the subscription form is only half the procedure. They MUST return the confirmation message they receive or they WILL NOT be added to the list.
Note that none of what I just described applies to anyone who is currently on the list. It only applies to people joining the list from now on.
So why am I making new subscribers jump through so many hoops to join us? Nine words - there are just too many jerks on the Internet. It is becoming all too common for immature malcontents to
In reality it is a pain in the ass for list moderators, who are forced to spend time getting the often angry people off the list. I just spent two days trying to get some poor schmuck in Germany off the list because he ticked-off someone and that someone subscribed him to a bunch of lists. To make matters worst, for every message the list sent him, he returned 10 with a request to stop "spamming" him.
But enough of my yakking.
Thanks to everyone for making this a great list.

PS...The "Guy in Germany" is just one of many stories I can share regarding the arrows I endure to bring you this list every day. If you really want to know about the shadowy world of list moderation, buy me a beer at Web Advertising '98.
