You are implying that a news service has to be automated.
Not so. Mine isn't. I send them one at a time.
Yes, I am crazy. I do not believe in some mail merge that
gives the appearance of individuality with only the
recipient's name and pub name being different in each
release. Even the positioning of the news itself should
change depending on the person you are sending to.
Shotgun news release services have their place, but to
reach the RIGHT person with exactly the RIGHT news for
their coverage area, it can't happen automagically.
It takes me 4 hours to do a few hundred releases, but the
clients and results speak for themselves. Yeah, I could try
and get rich by slapping out a couple thousand releases in
30 seconds via a bot, and handle 20 clients a day, but I'd
rather make editors happy and get the news covered, which is
the goal in the first place...
