Howdy folks,

Forgive me for addressing everything in one letter, but I get the
digest version.

First, about the web ring with the pop-up navigation window. We've
been discussing how people surf with graphics turned off. Has anyone
thought that the growing prevalence of pop-up ad windows is causing
people to surf with JavaScript turned off? In Netscape 3.x, this is
very easy. You just go into Options|Network Preferences|Languages and
uncheck JavaScript Enabled. If there are some cool JS features on a
page that you want to experience, you just turn it back on and re-load
the page. I know this not because I use pop-ups on my site (which I
don't) but because I've gotten so sick of pop-ups that I'll often turn
JS off to avoid them.

As for the cost of spam. Here's an interesting thing. Have any of you
been spammed by the Mining Company yet? I've been spammed by them
twice, offering some sort of enhanced directory listing for $25. In
many cases, spam is an act of stupidity. I can't imagine that they'd
be that stupid, so I'm figuring for them maybe it's an act of
desperation.

And that's all I have to say about that.
