Some commercial sites seem to use graphical buttons and image maps as a
method to force more users to load graphics, and thus load more ad banners.

For example, when Alta Vista first began including ad banners on its pages
the search results pages were re-designed. Instead of clicking a text link
which said "next", the user now must click a small GIF image which says
"next". Those unfamiliar with Alta Vista would have to load images in
order to understand the navigation.
