The subject of valuation of websites generally comes up during the process
of buying and selling such sites. Although there are not many places on the
web that currently help buying or selling sites a few have appeared -
including the one we are about to launch.

Many of these "broker sites" give various approaches on how to calculate
the value of a site. Each has its good points and bad points. They all
include the various elements mentioned in the original post.

An interesting approach could be to also use a formula that looks at
visitors per week / month / year, and assigns a worth to the total number
reached each month / year as compared to other media (i.e. how much is a
constant stream of x readers / visitors / viewers per month / year worth in
magazines, television etc.) in addition to the other elements. Naturally,
more weight should be given to the fact that visitors to certain sites may
be much better "targets" and thus worth more than for example a straight
cost per thousand calculation.
