I've found webrings to be a mixed bag. One of the things I *really* like
about a good one is the diversity of info available on a given topic. This
usually seems to be a pretty specific subject, such as a particular movie,
or a cartoon character, or an author - and so on and so on. What seems to
happen is that people who actually love the subject matter get together
AFTER building their site to enrich their visitors' experience with a
webring to affiliated sites.

The particularly lame webrings seem to be the work of sheer marketing, such
as the *TOWN* Web ring, or the *PROFESSION* Web Ring. There usually seems
to be very little compelling content, just ad after ad after ad. Blech.

So, as a web visitor, I usually check out web rings on topics I'm very
interested in, and ignore the rest. Which relates to the rhetorical
question, "How do I get quality results from my site without some kind of
attachment to compelling content?"
