We have just signed up our site up under a new Canadian banner ad network
called - Virtual Billboard Network (VBN) - http://www.virtualbillboard.net
. VBN is managed by Gallop & Gallop who have a very good reputation in
traditional media in Canada and now have turned their attention to the
Internet. They claim that they have many existing advertising clients who
are now interested in online banner ads. To date, the only banner ads we
have seen is for the VBN itself. I realize that they are new on the seen
but is it right that we are driving traffic to their site without
compensation? Has anyone else had any experience with the VBN?
The other question I have is regarding the compensation. They take 70% of
the first $5,000 and 55% of anything over that. I understand that they have
to make money as well but that sure doesn't leave much for the web
publishers. Is this standard practice elsewhere in the world? For more
details on their contract you can view it at
http://www.virtualbillboard.net/siteserv_vbn_contract.htm
To me, it looks like the future of the online advertising model is big
agencies taking big commissions. I am interested to hear your thoughts.
