Check out http://www.versit.com It's a consortium of big IT players
(IBM, Apple etc.) To standardize personal information into a file
format. Similar to a business card, a "V-Card" can be transmitted,
dragged & dropped or whatever into V-Card compliant applications. The
obvious example is an address book or calendar package. I'm not real
familiar with the technology and am not sure if it is making much
headway. The only organizations I've seen using it are Four11
(www.four11.com) and some company whose name escapes me--they have a
PIM that supports the V-Card. As with all standards, a critical mass
must be attained--my guess is it won't happen until MS and Netscape
adopt it for the web; ACT!, Organizer and others for PIMs.
Hope this helps,
