I have a client who's interested in Internet marketing/online sales of golf
equipment. He wants to have pages with product details and photos linked to
an Email order form and credit card payment. Before taking the plunge, he
wants an idea of likely sales response rates. This is a UK outfit which plans
to link the web site into a TV ad campaign.

OK, I know this is like asking: 'how long is a piece of string?', but does
anyone have figures from their own experience of web page 'hits to sales'
ratios? i.e. What proportion of visitors to a site actually buy something
from it using an online order form? I am particularly interested in sports
equipment, as this is not covered in the GVU data - but any reasonably
reliable info would be useful.
