Jeff, that's a good argument, but let's take that a step further. Say I
post in alt.macramae asking about the quality of hemp. Does that give
macramae purveyors across the world the right to write to me about anything
even tangentially related to macramae for all time? And how about fabric
manufacturers who might make the logical assumption that if I'm interested
in one craft, perhaps I'd be interested in theirs.

The genesis of this discussion was about software that sucked email
addresses from html. Seems that if I am specifically targeting e-mail to
potential clients who have expressed an interest, then I need to spend some
quality time reading their web pages instead of sending some bot to do my
work for me.
