I work with a large newspaper in Canada who is just about to officially
launch its "classified" internet site. Banner space is for sale on top
of all category pages (12 pages in all so far) as well as home page
banner space. As we are just launching, we don't know what the hits will
be so how do we determine the charge? Is it best to guess at what the
click through rate might be? Is it best to rent the space as is on a
optional contract basis (1 mth, 3 mths, 6 mths, 1 year).
Then comes production costs. Do most sites charge just for space or
click throughs and have the production charged separately? In this
market, we would like to "unbundle" our rates. Is this wise?

Lastly, does anyone know where I can find current internet users
statistics for Canada and western Canada. The Neilson ratings did not
help me much.

Replies are greatly appreciated as I am in a serious vat of confusion
