ONLINE-ADS>> spam vs. targeted mailing

A week ago I provoked a discussion over spamming e-mail addresses. My
effort was to point out the difference between spam and target mailing.
I was concerned b/c the bulk of you responded to me that e-mail, no
matter the content or context, if unsolicited, was a bad idea.

I was concerned b/c I was about to launch a farmed e-mail mass mailing
(read - I personally looked at over 500 pages (_at_100 a day) and took
their e-mails (if appropriate) for the list). Having dedicated the time
to the farming I was determined to send the e-mail.

I can confidently say from the positive responses that the mailing was a
success, but I reiterate from my postings - this was a specifically
context targetted e-mailing.

There is a difference between spam and target mailing. It's a fine
line, but if used correctly e-mail can still be part of an effective
marketing campaign.

BTW - the e-mail was to announce the launch of The Sporting News
(http://www.sportingnews.com). If you're a sports fan I encourage you
to go take a peek. Oh and don't forget to sign up for the mailing list
;)
