Forcing an ad to pop up in a distinct window (as opposed to simply a new
window) has a definite visual impact, and can also help users to navigate
their way back to the original site (by simply closing the spawned window).
Some people with whom I've spoken, though, feel the effect can easily be
overdone and thus annoying. Also, some of that spawning is dependent on
JavaScript, which is not supported by all browsers.
