I received many direct replies to my request for a good clipping service
(online or offline) to find out if our press releases are having any effect.
My main objective is to find out if we are being published.

I thank everyone for taking the time to help me out and would like to post
the results of my findings:

The best one I have found so far, for my needs, was submitted by Jim Sterne
at Target Marketing: He advised me to contact Steve McIntosh at Research On
Demand PH: 800-200-4095 or email: <mcintosh_at_deco.net>. Steve relpied that he
searches hundreds of newspapers, magazines and trade journals for any
mention of you or your company. His charge is $250.00 and he will fax the
text of the articles in 24 hours. I have not hired Steve to do this yet, but
will most likely use him, in the near future

Other recommendations included:

>Lytec Systems at 1-888-PHYNET1 or http://www.phynet.net/Lytec
>gives you free access to the National Library of Medicine's searchable
>database of 8 million citations from 3,800 medical, dental, health and
>scientific journals.

>The oldest and largest and most dependable (read: thorough) clipping
>service is Bacon's Clipping Service in Chicago. Don't have number
>immediately available. Have used them on and off for many years ... have
>*never* missed a clip in a piece of legitimate/recognized media. They also
>offer a bunch of other useful services.

>call Burrells
>201-992-6600
>They can help.

>I tend to use elibrary to check for press coverage by searching for
>company/product name, etc. It's at: http://www.elibrary.com/
>Also you could try searching NewsPage, who archive selected news stories
>from various sources at http://www.newspage.com/NEWSPAGE/BNPSearch.html
>Neither of these will probably be as comprehensive as you'd like, but in the
>absence of anything better they could be useful.

>Lexis-Nexis would be one outstanding tool for this purpose. ...Their
database is very deep and well-organized; hundreds of magazines and journals
(including medical), newspapers, newsletters, and even broadcast transcripts.
>Lexis-Nexis includes a service called "Eclipse" which works like an
>automated clipping service updated at intervals you select. You can have
>several "Eclipse" requests running simultaneously, each with it's own
>search criteria. However, the service is not inexpensive. ... Check
www.lexis-nexis.com.

Again thank everyone for their input, and for helping to make this
discussion group a good tool for networking with other marketers.
