I've been running the Volition to get FREE Stuff! since April 1996. In that
time I have seen many "Free Stuff" sites come and go. I actually cannot
think of any that have been around for more than a year.

There are three types of "Free Stuff" sites. Commercial sites run simply to
make money from ads, link pages on commercial sites that think the free
stuff will be a draw to their main site and hobby sites of freebie enthusiasts.

The free stuff that the commercial sites find usually stink. Anyone can get
a free magazine when you have to write cancel on the bill when it comes. We
all know where to get 2 free rolls of Seatle film. The consumers bore of
these sites quickly and they just make the good sites look bad. The owners
give up on the idea or keep redesigning the site thinking that a new layout
will do something.

The sites run by housewives and college kids have the best free stuff.
These people know what finding freebies is all about. These sites close
down when the owner gets bored with it, the school shuts it down because it
got too many hits, or they start creating web sites for others and don't
have time to maintain their own hobby site. The best ones made a few
hundred bucks in ads, and bought themselves nice new PCs.

I personally keep quite busy just linking to and reviewing all the good Free
Stuff sites that are out there as they come and go on a weekly basis. Of
course, that's why people just bookmark Volition instead of all these sites
that are constantly moving and closing. So, I like it this way.

ciao,
Ray
