Hi all,

Amidst all the discussion about marketing on the web, ad banners,
sponsoring e-lists such as this one etc, I have not seen any mention
of services like AOL and Compuserve and thought it might make an
interesting thread.

While there seems to be questions over the future of CompuServe, it
remains a major player, in Europe in particular. I believe that it is
the single largest ISP in the UK (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and
is strong in the Netherlands, France and Germany.

Meanwhile, AOL is also growing its European subscriber base
(with its support facilities here in Dublin, Ireland)

Personally, I believe that you can promote a site or an event to a
particular audience on these services and I maintain accounts on both.
My real question though is whether anyone on this list has advertised
on these services with the objective of increasing the number of
targeted visitors to a website.

Anyone care to comment on what criteria they would use to make a media
purchase on these services as opposed to the web and how effective
they believe it can be?
