Hi,
We recently encountered Rhode Island Software Systems, who made a highly
popular "Hey Macaroni!" screensaver last summer - a spoof on the "Macarena"
dance song, with dancing macaronis and a home-grown tune. You can
download it off of http://www.risoftsystems.com, or on any of the shareware
sites (hotfiles.com, shareware.com, jumbo.com).
They would be interested in learning if there is sponsorship interest for
these massively successful screensavers. They received over 2,500,000
verifiable downloads for Hey Macaroni!, and will be releasing another
screensaver "blockbuster" this summer - with another spoof (of the boxing
match - "Holyear vs Teethson" - with teeth chomping ears).
Given the freeware nature of this software, and the raw reach, an
advertiser-supported model for this software would be appropriate. For
"Hey Macaroni!", there was an ad for one of their other products - Ovation
Pro (used to actually make the screensaver) - that appeared after the dance
was over. Download it and see it yourself. Their success with Hey
Macaroni! clearly proves they can get the reach, and if you try it out you
can see that its a little addictive and captivating.
A download-based pricing would be most appropriate (e.g.
$.05-$.10/download, which if each download resulted in 10 impressions,
would effectively be a $5-$10 CPM). The context would be entertainment
related, and would be geared exclusively towards branding efforts.
What you think of sponsored screensavers? Would it make sense for you?
