Any advertisers out there rejoicing over this news? The fact that NS and
MSIE chose to ignore the proposed standard is not surprising, it's their
baby. To make it harder to set these new marvels to alert the user to
attempted tracking is also in keeping with their game plan.
This is just the position most surveys show users don't like and begs the
question: Why don't they give you the choice on set-up? The answer of
course, is most would probably refuse. Would you? They may have won this
minor battle but the war's certainly not over.

Cookies are here to stay, and those that can get away with it will continue
to do so, but would you bet your business on it? If you're counting on this
technology as a must for online commerce you better hope that the people
who refuse them and the millions of others that don't use the NS/IE system
are not the consumers you want. The negativism that is out there now and
will continue to grow will not be directed toward the "Big Two" but instead
be voted on site-by-site by the Netizens of the world.
The promise of internet commerce will flourish when and if the ability to
conduct one-to-one interaction is founded on trust, not deception, just as
it is in the "real" world.
The view from here...
