I have heard many stories along those lines. On Safe-Audit everything is
paid by results and nothing is paid up front. In theory it should be a
charter
for rip-offs but there is a big difference between ripping off a single site
and a network of thousands. If someone defaults payment to one site they
can easily move on to another site to rip it off. If someone were to default
on Safe, not only would thousands of sites become aware of that fact but
all of them (and all future growth within the network) would be closed
forever to that advertiser. I am also banking on the fact that if someone
is getting sales from a source at a reasonable rate would they really like
to see that source cut off? Time will tell if that reasoning will hold but so
far so good.

I do not know how double click does this. In fact I have been trying to tell
them that their registration form doesn't work with Netscape 4.0 but all
I get is an autoresponder telling me to use their registration form <g>.
On Safe, we track traffic to the Thank you page on the assumption that
a purchase or lead generation or registration form has been
completed. Obviously there is some wastage there. Anyone selling
on-line for example, will be familiar with some CCs not being accepted
etc. so they can factor that failure percentage into the price they pay
per sale.
