On my affinity card application I put no data, name and address
included, which bears any relationship to me, nor, as far as I know,
to any actual person living or dead. The only benefits I lose are the
so far rare ones where the store might send me coupons in the mail
which are not otherwise available. I know its rare because another
member of my family has a card in the normal fashion. So the main
information available from my affinity card lies in contributions to
correlative data among products, shopping total, frequency of vist,
phases of the moon, etc.

Consequently, to track the real me, as opposed to the virtual me, they
have to correlate by my credit card. Since technologically they could
have done that always, I conclude that their business arrangements
make it presently unprofitable for them to do so. Further, my style of
refusal seems to be small enough to make it too expensive for them to
special case my scheme. They get plenty of utility from the majority
of cooperating customers and have no real need to spend any money
dealing with resistance.
