Dear O-A members,
Sorry Richard, I completely agree with the guy from MarCom Awards saying
that displaying ads at a certain time of day is needed. He is absolutely
right! Why would someone want to advertise beer at 8:30 am, or see an ad
for beer at that time. I would be more likely to respond to something like
an ad for breakfast cereal or something to help me at work. If I visit at
nite, I want to see ads for a niteclub or beer or the latest video
releases. I think that is only logical - we have different things on our
mind and different needs at different times of day. It's the same reason
Subway advertises so heavily over lunch. It works on me. ;-)
Also, I am surprised this is really an issue. At least for most American
sites, I would think it would be relatively easy to have ads display at a
general time of day across timezones - and it would be even easier to
target those coming from other countries which are less likely to be spread
across four time zones. At Future Pages, we offer that capability to
national advertisers trying to reach the college market. But then again,
we are working with local content and most visitors are college students
coming from a readily identifiable .edu domain so we always know what time
it is in their corner of the world.
But I definitely think this is something worthy of addressing - and *is*
standing in the way of progress.
