We will soon have a registration page on our web site that will require
users provide certain pieces of information about themselves (i.e. age,
gender, zip code) in exchange for access to our product. We want to use
the information to help with advertising targeting and we will clearly
communicate this to users, but I am concerned about the percentage of
visitors who will register AND the accuracy of the data they will
provide. Does anyone have suggestions for how to elicit the highest
response rate AND the most accurate data from users? (Actually, I am
most concerned about accuracy, because I think we can deal with the
response rate by keeping the requested information short, explaining why
we want it, and the limits of how the data will be used.) Any rules of
thumb for the pecentage of data supplied upon registration that is
accurate?
Thanks for your help.
