Ken Wollins makes the point that an extended wait for a site to load is the
primary cause for much of the click through loss. For what it's worth, I
think it is more complicated than that. It can be caused by server
problems on both sides of the connection. This is also measurable by
simply calculating click-through loss from a variety of sites where you are
advertising. If my banner is only losing 3% clicks from site A and 18% on
site B, I have to wonder if it has something to with the advertising
vehicle and not the advertiser site.
Also want to comment on Jim Sterne's cool poetry. He is right on about the
necessity to "tightly targeting your quarry" if you want to make money on
the Net. Here at NotifyMe we are trying to do just that by giving
marketers who want to advertise on the NotifyMe site access to a highly
targeted list. We can help create direct sales for our advertisers because
the individuals who get to look at the ads have profiled themselves in over
300 interest categories and are already interested. Being more effective
to me is not just providing millions more impressions. Being more
effective from both a buyers and sellers point of view is bringing those
buyers and sellers together so both are contented, ie a win/win situation.
That's what effective marketing has always been about.
