I'm a new suscriber to this group, so hi everyone! Excellent AND free
advice??? What a dream! All I need now are sales!

In a recent post, Bev Bernard <bev_at_notifyme.com> referred to Ken Wollins,
who made the point that an extended wait for a site to load is the primary
cause for much of the click through loss. Bev speculated that the slow site
load may be traceable to problems on both ends of the connection.

I just recently learned this the hard way. Being a relatively new company,
I've primarily dabbled in purchasing Internet Link Exchange banners until I
feel more comfortable going with some of the major search engines. At
most, my ILE banner was getting about a 1 to 2 percent click through rate,
which I though seemed a little low.

Turns out, my ISP just recently informed me that many people in his very
own office who were wanting to buy my beans had to wait for up to five
minutes during heavy net traffic hours for my home page to load. The main
monkey wrench? You guessed it...the ILE banner being served from Frisco to
northeast Tennessee...was dragging the entire site to a snail's pace.

A look at my past month's "visitor walkthru" stats confirmed that many
people left after 20 to 30 seconds while still waiting for my home page and
ILE banner to load.

I've since taken it off...and am wondering whether all banner ads have
similar inherent problems. Maybe this is why many of us get excited when
we hear about a banner ad that commands a "whopping" 5 percent click
through rate!
