Paul,

If you're looking for reciprocal links to build traffic, old fashioned
footwork (or keyboard work ;)) is the way to go. I've found that an email
to the webmaster or BD person that politely requests a link exchange is
fairly effective (not with the big players but medium to small sites).
Expect to establish a reciprocal link. Also, you need to provide somewhat
prominent placement for your reciprocal links. We established a 'cool
stuff' page that is accessable from the home page and haven't received any
complaints.

With the really popular sites (Netscape, Yahoo), you can submit your URL to
New and Cool areas. A link at a big site will send your traffic through
the roof. Unfortunately, those links only last for about a week.

One final hint, try the Yahoo! Web Launch program. It's a thousand bucks
for a week's listing, we recived ok traffic from it and they FINALLY listed
us in their search engine after we finished the program (coincidence, I
think not)

If you find an easier, magic formula - let me know.
