The Yahoo! Web Launch program was a total waste of time for us. We got
very little traffic (it happened to be in December so I assume the holiday
timing had something to do with it) and NO subscribers for our service.
Yahoo! would not run it another time although I specifically asked them to
wait until January to run it. I consider it a $1,000 thrown away. One
might assume the creative had something to do with that failure except that
we used the same creative on another site and did fairly well with it. My
suggestion: make sure you take a week that you consider a good solid one,
ask them up front when the banner will run, and use your money elsewhere if
they won't allow you to run when you want to. Also, we never have had much
success getting listed with their search engine even though we not only
purchased the Web Launch banner, but have run banners on the general
rotation and targeted keyword sites with much less success that with other
sites. As you can tell, I am not an advocate of Yahoo! for promoting
every site. I maintain that it isn't the high traffic and high number of
impressions that will get you the best results. It is testing a variety of
sites, knowing the demographic you are after, doing your homework, that
pays off.
