Host a contest on the site. This will draw in traffic and you can
even request information from the entrants that can be used in a
direct mail solicitation. Since your client is willing to give away
a 'free promotional product' anyway you should use that to attract
people to the site not just help 'sell them' once they have arrived.
There are a number of contest listing sites out there that will
publisize your 'contest' for free. Our site charges a listing fee of
$25 per/month to publisize your contest but provides banner
advertising and directs traffic to your homepage.
Free listing services will direct traffic to the contest
entry page which does get your site noticed but may not be that
advantageous for sales.
